Privacy notice

financeprep.uk is a free, non-commercial practice site for students applying to UK finance roles. It is run by Antonio Stancati, who is the controller under UK data protection law for the small amount of personal data the site handles, described below.

• There are no accounts, and we never ask for your name, email or university.
• There is no analytics, advertising or tracking, and no third-party scripts run on the site.
• Your scores, settings and anything you type stay in your own browser, and we can't see them.
• Camera and microphone recordings stay on your device and are never uploaded.
• Our hosting provider keeps short-lived technical logs of page requests, as every website host does.

The site saves some things in your browser's local storage so your practice carries on between visits. This data stays on your device and is never sent to us. It includes:

• summaries of finished practice sessions, such as scores, timings and which format you practised;
• settings, such as extra time, and which checklist items you ticked;
• answers you write in the motivation answer builder or a written case, so a closed tab doesn't lose them;
• your application tracker, including any notes you add about a test invite.

You can download, restore or delete this data on your progress page. Downloads leave out written answers and the tracker. Clearing your browser's site data also removes everything.

The video interview recorder asks your browser for camera and microphone access only when you start it, and only for this site. Recordings are kept in your browser's memory while you review them and are cleared when you leave the page. They are never uploaded. If you choose "Save a copy", the file goes to your own downloads.

The optional word count and pace feature uses your browser's speech recognition only in on-device mode, where the speech is processed on your computer. If your browser can only recognise speech by sending audio to a server, the feature stays off. Transcripts are kept in memory and never saved or uploaded.

Some pages show whether a firm has posted its programme yet. Our server checks the firm's own careers site at most every ten minutes, and your browser only ever talks to our server, so nothing about you reaches the firm. If you turn on alerts, your browser shows them itself, and we never learn whether you did.

The site is hosted by Vercel Inc. When your browser loads a page, Vercel processes technical information such as your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time, to deliver the page, prevent abuse and fix faults. These logs are kept only for the short periods Vercel sets, and we don't use them to identify or profile anyone.

The lawful basis is our legitimate interest in running a secure, working website. Vercel acts as our processor and may handle this data outside the UK under the safeguards in its data processing terms. Its privacy policy explains more.

financeprep.uk doesn't set cookies. The local storage described above is used only to provide features you ask for, is never read by us and isn't used for tracking, so no cookie banner is needed.

Pages link to employers' careers sites and other sources. Those sites have their own privacy policies. Our links ask your browser not to tell them which page you came from.

The site is written for university students and isn't aimed at children.

Under the UK GDPR you have rights to access, correct and delete your personal data, and to object to how it is used. Because your practice data never leaves your browser, you control it directly on your progress page. For anything held in server logs, email antonio.stancati@warwick.ac.uk or send a message on LinkedIn and we'll respond within one month.

If you're unhappy with how your data is handled, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

If this notice changes, the date at the top changes too. Significant changes will also be noted on this page.
